BECU (Boeing Employees Credit Union), is the largest credit union in Washington and fourth largest in the country. They are a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution with over 925,000 members and over $13.6 billion in assets. Their mission is to support the economic and social health of their members and to provide value and a high level of service unique to credit unions
BECU hired a new Chief Information Officer (CIO), they understood that making this hire would require a realignment of their IT organization to meet the new needs of the business. The new CIO came with a vision and a simple strategy that would require the credit union to hire additional IT professionals to support their growth. BECU would need to hire 20% more staff in a very short period of time to ensure they had the bandwidth to support the initiatives of the new CIO.
BECU has always been very successful and had never been faced with such an ambitious hiring objective. Realizing that hiring a small handful of employees can become an arduous task, the credit union chose to align themselves with a recruiting partner to assist them in this enormous endeavor. They chose WideNet Consulting Group to assist them in their 20% growth spike.
A team of WideNet recruiters met with the IT managers and executive leadership at BECU to gain a full 360-degree view of the team and the scope of project the employees would be working on. It was important for our recruiters to partner with the CIO and hiring managers develop an intimate understanding of BECU’s core values, culture and business strategy. Being equipped with this knowledge allowed WideNet to become an effective extension of the BECU recruiting department.
The recruiters working exclusively on the BECU project spend the next several weeks screening and interviewing candidates. They focused their questions on technical skills, experience, leadership capability, problem solving capacity and work style to garner a complete picture of the candidate before submitting them to the hiring managers.
WideNet successfully filled the roles required by BECU including several new Directors of Technology, Managers of Application Development and other technology-focussed roles. As a result, the team at BECU has been able to reach their goals and support several new initiatives including: more user friendly applications and internal IT process improvement. Over time, these improvements to the IT organization directly support their mission to help them better serve their members.
