Transportation Optimization Business Analyst

Job Description/Skills:
This position is remote nationwide but the candidate must work PST/MST hours no matter where they are located.
Background
Our client is engaged in an extensive Transportation Optimization program to increase efficiency and identify opportunities to improve our trucking fleet capabilities through key metrics such as ‘loaded mile percentage’ and ‘trips per truck per day’.
Our client is looking for a Business Analyst to increase bandwidth for critical data centric tasks related to Optimization vendor selection and implementation, configuring and executing proof of concept and pilot programs, as well as final solution implementation and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Candidate will function as a Business Analyst, working directly with our Sr. IT Analyst as well as the Transportation Business team within the Optimization program, with the following responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
- Develop a solid understanding of Transportation metrics and data, business use cases and requirements related to Optimization and how these align with strategic goals
- Partner with business customers and technical staff to define requirements; translate and document recommendations into functional and technical specifications
- Formulate, configure and execute data export and ingestion according to Optimization platform vendor and client specifications
- Interpret and consolidate data results from Optimization platform outputs
- Suggest improvements to processes, database structure and data formatting to achieve Optimization goals
- Develop workflows to fine tune Optimization efforts according to individual area requirements
- Create/augment reports that showcase data in clear and easily understood terms
- Plan, create, document, and conduct Optimization system testing and implementation activities, ensuring business requirements and functional specifications are implemented effectively and meet business objectives
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, Database Management, or a degree with a focus on data analytics or similar discipline, or equivalent experience is required
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive, relevant IT/Data Science experience
- Advanced ability to translate business needs into functional requirements and IT Product technical specifications
- Demonstrated experience partnering with subject matter experts and third parties to identify and recommend new data solutions or improvements to existing solutions
- Knowledge and understanding of Transportation/Logistics industry
- Ability to develop business use cases including outcomes, benefits, and KPIs
- Ability to develop specific business and industry domain expertise and knowledge of business roadmap and strategy
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting and visualizing transportation data
- High attention to detail
- Proven ability to operate and effectively communicate while under pressure, as well as the ability to manage a diverse workload and work under time constraints with minimal supervision
- Team-first professional with strong oral and written communication skills, proficient in communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences
Technical Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of SQL (SSMS) and MySQL (MySQL Workbench) with experience creating and executing stored procedures, as well as analyzing and improving query efficiency
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power BI for analyzing and displaying detailed data and creating reports
- Expertise in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and the ability to create/modify reports
- Familiarity with ticketing systems and change management processes
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) is a plus but not required
Pay Range: $55.00 – $65.00 per hour, depending upon experience.
